Waxing is the most popular and affordable type of hair removal
If you are having waxing, especially for the first time, it is essential that the aftercare process is followed to prevent ingrown hairs, bacterial infections, scarring, itching and having to resort to antibiotics.
Ingrown hairs form when dry skin cells block the surface opening of hairs growing back after shaving, waxing, electrolysis and any other form of hair removal. Failing to grow out the skin, the hairs curl inside the follicle underneath the skin and the resulting foreign body reaction causes an unsightly infectious bump. Both women and men suffer from ingrown hairs.
To prevent ingrown hairs from forming:
- Remove the dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin by exfoliating with a course dry body mitt after waxing before showering at least 2-3 times a week starting 3 days after your waxing treatment.
- Moisturise the skin daily to nourish and protect the skin from excessive flaking or irritation; this will also enable the hair to grow out onto the skin's surface.
Waxing Post care advice:
- Exfoliate 2-3 times a week starting 3 days after your waxing treatment & moisturise daily.
- Don't exercise for at least 48 hours after your waxing treatment.
- No sun exposure over the waxed areas for at least 48hrs.
- No harsh soaps or acid-based products to be applied as they will irritate the waxed skin. Aloe Vera gel is fine to use.
- No saunas, public pools, hot spas or really hot showers for at least 48hrs afterward.
